Friday we scoured the neighborhood for the best dinner, we picked the restaurant based on 1. price, 2. selection of food and 3. crowdedness of people. This was the fastest we had ever made a decision on our trip. We finally have mastered the skill of quick decisions for dining. We decided on a fashionable corner bar and eatery, sat in a cute corner seat near the window (perfect for people watching), we had a romantic candle lit dinner of paella, pan, tortilla, flan, vino y ensalada. Both us chicas were already ready to shake it on the dance floor as it was already 11pm and we were off to the discoteca right after cena. We love eating at such a late hour, sitting down to eat at 11 at night didn´t seem strange at all and we are slowly being converted to the spanish culture.
We walked a few minutes to Joy, on calle Arenal, the best discoteca we´ve been to so far. We were told by the bouncers at the door that we needed flyers to get into the club for free (otherwise it would have been 18 euros) and therefore we had to scan the street for the promotors of the club, whom usually we ignore and quickly pass. Por fin, we got into the club, there were American pop culture posters up everywhere, of Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and John Wayne, which only furthered our observation that American culture has infiltrated the Spanish night scene (hence the Beyonce, Daft Punk, and other American hiphop songs that played the first half of the night). We ordered simple well drinks, full intending to get schwasty (shout out to Bender), and were absolutely SHOCKED when the bill was 11 euros each, que loca! Needless to say, we were sober. This did not stop our dancing and we torn up the floor.
Highlights:
- old Italian men telling us we are number 1
- loud American girls slutting it up
- a club promoted peep show with a lady with nothing but a thong and boa....
Oh Madrid, how we´ll miss you and your surprises.
